the people of the south.

Antemoro. a people of about 500,000 in their population. very few who have heard the name of Jesus before.

i am often asked what i am looking forward to most in moving to Madagascar. when i say "seeing and meeting people," i tend to get strange looks. they expect something like favorite food or animal. the people of Madagascar, as a whole, are some of the most beautiful and genuinely kind people i've met. they love to smile and laugh, which is one of my favorite things to do.

that isn't the only reason i'm looking forward to it though. there is something so exciting about being able to be part of a movement of God. God is always moving, and He is definitely at work among all the people of Madagascar!

did you know, that just last week, there were 13 new believers baptized in the southwestern part of Madagascar? it may not be among the Antemoro people, but let me tell you, it is no less exciting! God is moving in ways we don't even realize or see. my prayer is that we all see people all around us with the same eyes God sees us with.

as i head to Madagascar in January, i hope to be able to bring you stories of God's goodness and faithfulness among the Antemoro people. i know there will be hard days, but God is always good, even in the bad days. i can't wait to bring you all along on this journey! be praying that the Gospel would sink deep into the hearts of the Antemoro people and start a movement across the island that is all for the glory of God.

Team Spotlight: Mondy

When I first met Mondy in 2013, she was quiet and reserved. The language barrier proved to be difficult. How much language can you really learn in 2 weeks of class? The answer? Not much. But even in that short time, I came to love Mondy! She was always a joy to be around and was never lacking in the fun department! I came on a short trip in 2015 and was blown away by her and her enthusiasm for ministry. I saw how assisting Ancil and the team in ministry had begun to define and shape her. She had learned so much and it was exciting to see how she had grown! Fast forward to 2017. I was most excited to be reunited with this sweet friend! I didn't know when I arrived that she would have grown even more than what I had seen 2 years prior. And even now, I am still seeing ways she is growing in her faith and in ministry. She is a businesswoman and leader in the community. She loves her family fiercely and her God even more so. She loves to sing and dance! She is a go-getter and does...

Team Spotlight: Hermes

Hermes. I first met Hermes in 2013 during my Hands On semester. He became really close with Kai and the two of them did a lot together! I didn't really know Hermes a great deal back then. What I knew, I of course loved! He was always willing to teach about Malagasy culture and how to make coffee. And I knew he loved guitar! Hermes then and Hermes now are like 2 different people. When I moved to Madagascar, I was very excited to see him! I didn't know what our friendship had in store, but I was excited to build on what was there from before. As before, Hermes has always been willing to help. Even though he is much younger than me, I have appreciated his willingness and desire to help. Whether it is helping me know the best way to speak to someone or being the brother that makes sure no one messes with me or calling me out, in love, when I start walking in my own ways instead of the Lord's, he is always ready. It has been a joy to watch him in ministry too. I cannot tel...

When It's Just Too Much

A typical week can be an emotional roller-coaster. Just ask anyone on the field and they will probably tell you about how the power got cut and they forgot about their wet laundry in the washing machine and how it frustrated them. Then they will tell you about the hard day that they had and cried their eyes out for most of it. And then (as if that wasn't enough), they will share their joy with you about the 1 person that accepted Jesus, because sometimes you can share and share and share and only 1 person sees their need for a Savior. Sometimes its just too much. Need after need is brought to you, expecting to be fulfilled. Anywhere from "foreigner, my house is falling apart, fix it" to "yes! Tell us about Jesus because the people need to know hope that will change their lives." There is not enough you to fulfill all the needs. There is not enough money or time or words. I love what the Lord has called me to. I love that I live where the people are friendly ...
